4. The Olympics. Golf returns to the Olympics for the first time since 1904. The format will be 72 holes of stroke play over four days at a course in Rio de Janeiro that was designed by Gil Hanse. Qualification will be based on the Official World Golf Ranking as of July 11, 2016, with 60 players in each of the men’s and women’s events. The top 15 automatically qualify, with a limit of four players per country. The remainder of the fields will be filled by the highest-ranked players from nations that don’t already have two players who have qualified. At least one golfer from the host nation and each geographic region (Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania) is also guaranteed a spot if not otherwise qualified. If qualifying ended this week, the U.S. would be represented by Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson.
