James Ross (Royal Burgess), who reached the semi-finals twelve months ago before succumbing to eventual winner David Law, progressed to the second round of the Scottish Amateur Championship with an impressive performance against Buckpool’s Jake Scott at Royal Dornoch this afternoon. The 22-year-old from Edinburgh produced some flawless golf in benign afternoon conditions for the afternoon starters, collecting three birdies with no dropped shots to see off his opponent with a 4 and 3 victory. Ross, winner of the Sutherland Chalice two weeks ago, was pleased to get his campaign off to a winning start: “I played really solid today and didn’t lose any holes. My first game at Dornoch was a practice round yesterday but I really love it.
