A late start and awful conditions greeting golfers in Eastern Canada.

It's going to be a late and not that great start to the golf season in Eastern Canada. Reports are coming in from most major centres about the damage to greens after a long, cold and icy winter. A story in the Windsor Star indicated that Essex G&CC opened last week with 17 temporary greens, something that shocked the superintendent there. Chris Andrejicka has been the course superintendent at Essex for 20 years and he's never seen winter effects like this. "It's the first time this has ever happened," he said. "The ice coverage throughout southeastern Michigan and Ontario has affected hundreds of golf courses, especially all the old golf courses with annual bluegrass greens."
