Golfweek: Report: Olympic spirit will alter World Cup: The format to the World Cup event

Golf's World Cup is getting a makeover. The format to the two-man event will change in 2013 to mirror the competition at the 2016 Olympics, which will feature the return of golf to the Games after a more than 100-year absence, World Cup organizers told Reuters. Points from the Official World Golf Ranking also will be awarded, and an individual trophy will be given for the first time since 1999, when the United States' Tiger Woods won in Malaysia. Ken Chu, chairman and chief executive officer of Mission Hills Golf Club, the course in Shenzhen, China, that hosts the event, confirmed the changes. "The World Cup will change format, and it will begin enjoying world-rankings points, and it will still be held biennially and at around this time of year," he told Reuters.
