Monty visits Afghanistan - European Tour

Colin Montgomerie (Getty Images) Former Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie helped promote golf in Afghanistan during a visit to the war-torn country this week. "It is great to promote the game here to encourage the Afghans to have a team in 2016 (when golf is part of the Olympic Games),” said the 48 year old at Camp Bastion, the main British military base in Helmand. “These kids were born into and grew up in war and it’s been very difficult.” Montgomerie, who took the Ryder Cup with him on the three-day trip, later shared his knowledge of the game with staff at the International Security Assistance Force headquarters.
