Mariah Stackhouse, of Riverdale, Ga., has given a verbal commitment to Stanford for the fall of 2012. Stackhouse made the decision after visiting a slew of East Coast schools including Duke, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Stackhouse took two unofficial visits to Stanford before making her decision, one last fall and another during this year’s spring break. “I love the academics, which are most important to me,” she said. “At schools like Stanford, you can’t get any better than that. And the campus is amazing.” The 17-year-old also explained that the rest of the campus just felt right. “A lot of my friends have told me that when you step foot on campus, you’ll know that that’s the school you’re supposed to go to,” she said.
